Shocker! 3 Of The 4 Cheap Ass MLB Owners That Voted Against Increasing The Luxury Tax Also Voted Against Steve Cohen's Bid To Buy The Mets Because They Are Scared Of Cohen Spending Too Much Money
Now let's go back to November of 2020 for what felt like the longest ownership approval process in thee history of sports if not the planet.
Christopher Ilitch, welcome to Uncle Stevie's Enemy List along with the other three bums and Jerry Reinsdorf (Nothing but love for White Sox fans though because we are all #SonsOfUribe and Tigers fans because I do NOT want to get on this guy's bad side).
I know we shouldn't be shocked that all of this nonsense boils down to the MLB owners that want to make money hand over fist while giving as little as possible back to the players. That's why those guys are billionaires while I blog this from my kitchen table with the heat set at 68 so my wife doesn't yell at me for the bill next month.
Guys like Arte Moreno has no problem going right up to the tax before slamming on the brakes as his team wastes the careers of one, and now maybe two, generational talents because it makes him appear to care about his team. I've heard from enough Reds fans to know that Bob Castellini is a worthless pile of shit while I don't think Diamondbacks fans even exist, which is probably why Ken Kendrick doesn't care if the season is played or not (along with having a double first and last name like a dickhead)
But it's still so frustrating that notoriously cheap teams like the Rays and the A's were cool with the luxury tax while the fuckfaces scared of Uncle Stevie coming into the league not only voted against the luxury tax going up but even used Cohen as some boogeyman for wanting to win.
Suddenly the Mets being unable to get permission to interview ANYBODY under contract for their open positions in the front office makes a whole lot more sense now! Then again, when owners in a sport making billions of dollars that refuse to open their books propose including players' meal money into the luxury tax, you know you are dealing with some true assholes that have no shame.
As for the ringleader of this entire shitshow, say what you want about Brodie Van Wagenen, but he could spot a snake a mile away.
Buy a shirt!
The one good part about this entire lockout is that if it ends with anything but a hard cap or the strictest penalties for teams that go over the salary cap, you know Uncle Stevie is going to go full Bobby Axe on a spite shopping spree for the ages AFTER breaking the bank for Max Scherzer. I'll be shocked if the Mets aren't in on Kris Bryant, Carlos Correa, and Freddie Freeman simply as Fuck You Signings to the owners that fought to let Uncle Stevie sit at the table because his wallet was too big. Because as a wise titan once said: Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same.
